Atmosphere

history.atmos.* -- CCM2 history format by default. Contains about 60 standard fields from the atmosphere. Use ccm2nc to convert to netcdf if not output in netcdf format.

Default variable list. (1-6 letter tags and long descriptions).

Optional atmosphere history variables and changing the atmosphere history file content: The fields listed below may optionally be output in the atmosphere history file. To change the contents of the atmosphere history file, use the namelist variable PRIMARY to add fields or EXCLUDE to remove fields (requires FOAM 1.5.17 or later). Use the 1-6 letter tags given above and below.

Example. To remove omega and add relative humidity and the longitude pressure gradient to the atmosphere history, add the following lines to atmos_params:

  • CGH - Counter-gradient term for heat in PBL K/m

  • CLOUDUP - Average of Cloud when omega is < 0 (up)

Ocean

The OM3 history files use a combination of floats and chars to compress the files by approx 2:1. Only 16 bits of information are retained.

  • history.ocean.* -- 3D values for T,S,P,U,V,W

1000. appears where there's land.

  • history.osurf.* -- Surface forcing plus surface and near surface term balance information for vertical diffusion and convection. Also total convective frequenecy for upper and lower ocean.

Use om32nc to convert to netcdf if not output in NetCDF format..

Coupler (including Land, Sea Ice and River models)

  • history.coupl.*-- plain Fortran binary write with the following fields:
  • ORO -- snapshot of land/ocean/sea ice mask
  • TSSUB1,2,3,4 -- Over land: average temp of each layer of 4 layer soil model. Over ocean: SST.
  • SNDPTH -- snow depth in meters
  • THICKN -- sea ice thickness
  • WS -- soil moisture in meters
  • VOL -- river volume in meters-cubed
  • OPREC -- precip in m/s
  • OHEAT,OQFLX,OTAUX,OTAUY -- 4 ocean forcing fields
  • SHF -- sensible heat flux
  • LHF -- latent heat flux
  • EVP -- evaporation
  • RNF -- runoff at a land point
