AD 201X

The decision on various details will be based on the answers to a questionnaire that we will send attendants of past AD conferences and to people we believe might be interested in attending. The main concern is to find out a preferred time and location that will allow most people to attend.
Time
The reason for calling this page AD 201X is that - depending on the feedback we may decide to perhaps hold the conference earlier than 2012. The time preference will be part of the questionnaire. The following concerns limit the choices.
- school holidays in summer - unless the location is also attractive for family holidays
- bad summers or winters in certain locations
- availability of an inexpensive venue
Location
The set of possible locations for the conference is limited by the following concerns.
- reasonable transportation in terms of cost and time
- bad summers or winters (related to the survey results for the preferred time)
- more likely to secure a cheap university venue if we know somebody at the location in question.
The locations we are considering so far (in no particular order are):
- New York City, NY
- Washington, DC
- Arlington/Alexandria, VA (or another DC suburb)
- Cambridge/Boston, MA
- Fort Collins, CO
- Boulder, CO
- Salt Lake City, UT
- Santa Fe, NM
- Albuquerque. NM
Local Cost
As an initial estimate we assume:
- $200-$250 registration
- $40/day meals
- $100/night hotel
For locations 4-9 this would come out to be >$800 for a 5 day conference, while for New York City or Washington, DC it is likely to be well over $1000.
