VPN Printing
From MCS IT Wiki
If you are experiencing printing troubles in windows when connected to the ANL VPN: Symptoms include:
- Failure to print documents to MCS printers
- Status of "Unable to Open"
- Inability to view printer properties
Fixing the problem right now involves doing the following each time you log into the VPN and wish to print (the solution will last until you log out of the VPN):
- Start->My Network Places
- In the Address Bar type: \\ntprint
- Enter your MCS Login credentials when prompted (remember these are different than your ANL credentials)
If ntprint is not found, you should start here:
- try \\ntprint.mcs.anl.gov (if this works we have something more to do)
- Start->Control Panel->Network Connections
- Right Click on your Active Network "Local Area Networ" or "Wireless Network" and select Properties
- Under "This conn ection uses the following items:" Scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and then click Properties
- Click Advanced
- Select the DNS tab
- Towards the bottom, in the box next to DNS suffix for this connection, type: mcs.anl.gov
- Click OK, Click OK, Click Close
- test \\ntprint again (it should work now) else move on
- if not, please contact the helpdesk (systems.mcs.anl.gov)
We are working on a permanent solution at this time
