VPN
From MCS IT Wiki
To download the Cisco client, see https://credentials.anl.gov/VPN/index.htm.
This page details the native mode instructions for configuring the built-in clients for Mac OS X and Windows XP. Windows Vista instructions will show up at some point, but it's not an OS we're recommending at this point.
NOTE: This is not a recommended setup. We officially recommend using the Cisco client above.
Please note that these configurations will not allow "split tunneling", and all traffic will be routed through Argonne when you're connected. If you desire that functionality, you must use the Cisco client and the profiles labeled as "split tunneling".
Also, this will not work behind NAT, which includes most wireless hotspots and hotels. We recommend that you install the Cisco client due to its greater flexibility. OS X users should check out Shimo which features an improved interface. (You will still need the Cisco client installed.)
If you really would rather not install the Cisco software, see getting by without a VPN client.
Mac OS X
- Open Internet Connect (in /Applications)
- Click File, then New VPN Connection.
- Choose "L2TP over IPSec", then click Continue.
- Download this configuration file and run it. You'll need to right-click (or CTRL-click) the link and choose "Save As". It should be named "ANL-VPN.internetconnect" after it's saved. This is an XML file that, when double-clicked, will configure Internet Connect to connect to the VPN.
- If it asks where to add the profile, choose the L2TP profile.
- Use your Argonne Domain username and password to connect.
Windows XP
Still working on this. Until then, please use the Cisco client.
