Migrating Mail
From MCS IT Wiki
It turns out the migration of accounts looks to be incomplete. Please look over your new account and see if it's missing any mail. If it is, this document details what you need to do.
Also, for some users with existing Zimbra accounts, I looked at the existing account and made a judgement call. If you didn't have any actual data, but only links to shared calendars, I moved the account out of the way so your account with all your mail would be the primary one. That means you'll need to re-add any shared calendars. If you feel this judgement was made in error, send a note to systems@mcs.anl.gov and we can pull the old account back into place.
If you do this yourself, let us know when you're done and we'll turn off the unneeded account.

First, the short version of the instructions for those who understand IMAP mail. The next section contains more detailed instructions. You have two accounts right now -- your existing zimbra.mcs.anl.gov account, and your old cliff account with all your old mail. If you set up any IMAP client to access these accounts, you'll be able to move the mail from one to the other. Here's a table with helpful info on what's what:
| Account | Username | Password | Mail server |
|---|---|---|---|
| Existing Zimbra.mcs.anl.gov | MCSusername-mcs | Argonne Domain Password | zimbra.anl.gov |
| Old MCS (cliff) | MCSusername | MCS Workstation/e-mail password | imap.mcs.anl.gov |
I provide the cliff info for completeness, in case you find the migrated account doesn't contain all the old mail. Some people's syncs didn't quite work out right, but the stuff on cliff should be complete if you think anything's missing.
Step by step
This migration is easiest if you use Thunderbird to do it. You don't have to keep using it, but it makes moving mailboxes much easier, as it lets you drag entire mailboxes at a time. On the Mac, you can also use Mac OS X Mail to do this.
Set up one IMAP account using the instructions for Thunderbird or Mac Mail.
Then, if you don't already have your old account set up, add it, following the same instructions, except for the values needed, use the table above for Old MCS.
So, if your username is foo, then the first account will use foo-mcs, and the second account will use foo.
Once both accounts are set up, you can drag entire mailboxes from one to the other with ease. It's recommended you do this when at MCS due to network speeds, but if there's not a lot you can do it from home. Please be careful if using Thunderbird if you have nested folders -- it may copy the folders, but not the messages in them.
If this is unlcear please contact the help desk and we will be glad to help you get your client set up and mail copied over. We've set aside a lot of Tuesday April 29th to do this.
