Thunderbird is available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. You can download it from Mozilla's site.

Configuration

(Screenshots coming soon) Horizontal lines indicate a new setup screen (ie, after you click Continue).

  • Launch the Account screen from the Tools menu if you already have accounts set up and click Add Account. A new install with no accounts will launch this automatically.

  • Choose Email account.

  • Your Name is how your name appears in the From field.
  • Email Address is the email address that appears in the From field.

  • IMAP is the recommended configuration.
  • Incoming Server and Outgoing Server are both zimbra.anl.gov.

  • Incoming User Name is your mcs username-mcs.

  • Account Name is purely descriptive.

  • Ensure all your settings are correct and click Finish or Done.

  • You're not quite finished. Now, in the Accounts settings window, select Server Settings and ensure SSL is selected, and the port is 993. Make sure Use secure authentication is unchecked.

  • Then, again in the Accounts Settings window, you need to select Outgoing Server (SMTP), then Edit.

  • Description is purely descriptive, but you need to set Use secure connection to SSL, and ensure Port is 587.

And you're done!
