Mail/Mail

From MCS IT Wiki

Using the built-in Mail program from OS X is simple with Zimbra, since it acts like any other mail server from the client's point of view.

Configuration

The first time you launch Mail, you're presented with the Add Account wizard. You can also use this wizard via File->Add Account if you already have accounts set up in Mail. This process describes Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), though 10.4 (Tiger) looks very similar. Horizontal lines indicate a new section.

  • Full Name is your real name. It's the name that will show up next to your address on the From line of e-mails.
  • Email Address is the address that will show up on the From line of e-mails you send. If you want the ability to choose more than one e-mail address, you can enter multiple addresses on this line if you put a comma between each one.
  • Password is your ANL Domain password. Leave this blank if you don't want your mail reader to remember the password for you.

  • Account Type can be either POP or IMAP. IMAP is the recommended protocol and what these instructions reference.
  • Description is simply a descriptive name for the account. Only you see it.
  • Incoming Mail Server is zimbra.anl.gov.
  • User Name is your mcs username-mcs.
  • Password is your Argonne Domain password. Leave this blank if you don't want your mail reader to remember it. If you do leave it blank, you'll likely get a warning screen. Just click Continue if that happens.

  • Make Sure Use Secure Sockets Layer is checked and the Authentication is Password.
